The Local Area

Morecambe:

Poulton is the original historic fishing village of Morecambe, just a stone's throw from the amazing views and sunsets of Morecambe Bay. This is a mixed town centre/residential neighbourhood with seagulls and occasional town noise, but very friendly and accessible to everything Morecambe has to offer including the famous Art Deco Midland Hotel and the truly astounding Winter Gardens.

Morecambe is a designated 'Festival Town' and we play host to a number of great festivals including Wayne Hemingway's 'Vintage by the Sea', 'Baylight' our fabulous light art festival, 'Nice and Sleazy' punk festival, 'Catch the Wind' Kite Festival, Morecambe Pride and Heysham Viking weekend to name but a few.

Both the nearby Platform and the Winter Gardens are venues for lots of touring acts. Theatrical and comic connections are strong in this area: Thora Hird grew up on this street, Eric Morecambe took his first theatrical steps on the stage at the nearby Smokey O'Connors (once a theatre), and Victoria Wood resided in Poulton early in her career, possibly taking inspiration for her famous scene 'Two Soups' from the nearby Lubin's cafe (now sadly closed). Interesting murals depicting scenes of fishing life decorate end houses in the area, and there are some wonderful new public artworks in the Town Centre worth seeing. We are close to The Midland Hotel, the newly refurbished Morecambe Hotel and the local Weatherspoon's if you require a hearty cooked breakfast and nearby to good fish and chip shops.

The Bay is a large estuary just to the south of the Lake District National Park, and the views across the bay from Morecambe are world-renowned, offering a magnificent vista of the Lake District mountains and sunsets to die for!  The Bay is a great place for outdoor activities including sailing, windsurfing, mountain biking, horseriding, and kitesurfing. A perfect place to relax, explore and enjoy.

Lancaster:

Morecambe is also just a few short miles from the historic City of Lancaster.
